Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil took to Instagram on Sunday (Aug 4) to express his condolences to the family of singer Jay Jay.

The popular artiste, who got his start in the industry in the late 1970s with the group Carefree, died at a hospital in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya on Sunday night. He was 67.

According to a report, Jay Jay's death was due to multiple organ failure.

In the Instagram post, Fahmi shared that he received the sad news while attending the Free Palestine gathering in Bukit Jalil.

"Mohd Fauzi Darus, also known as Jay Jay, has left us forever.

"His passing is a significant loss to the local music industry.

"Condolences to all the late Jay Jay’s family members. May his soul be blessed and placed among the righteous," Fahmi wrote.

It's reported that Jay Jay underwent heart bypass surgery at the National Heart Institute (IJN) on May 23, after experiencing a mild heart attack and shortness of breath.

Jay Jay is known for hits like Kau Yang Tersendiri, Keasingan Dalam Luka and Cukuplah Sekali. He launched his solo career in 1984.

In 1998, he won the Best Male Vocal award at the Anugerah Industri Muzik.

He is survived by wife Zaitoon Wahid, 61, and four children.
