American rock band Green Day will be staging its first ever concert in Malaysia next year.

On Feb 18, the Grammy-winning band will be performing at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.

This will be the group's only other stop in South-East Asia after Jakarta, Indonesia.

"Malaysia, there’s a first time for everything!! We’re fired up to play on 18 February at National Hockey Stadium in Kuala Lumpur," the band wrote on its Instagram page.

Many Malaysian fans have since left comments, expressing excitement at the group's first concert in KL.

"Finally dude. We've been waiting since the 90s," one fan commented.

Another added: "Please wake me up in September. I want to buy tickets."

"My inner child just got healed," said another.

Formed in 1986, Green Day is one of the world's best-selling bands of all time, with more than 75 million records sold worldwide.

The three-piece band rose to fame in 1994 with its album Dookie and is known for hits such as American Idiot, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Boulevard Of Broken Dreams and 21 Guns, among others.

Pre-sale tickets for Green Day's February show in KL will be available on Sept 26 from noon.

Mastercard holders have special access to presale tickets from 10am on Sept 24.

General tickets will go on sale on Sept 27 from 11am at www.golive-asia.com.
