K-pop agency The Black Label announced on Aug 22 that Ella Gross, a child model-turned-K-pop trainee, will debut as a member of its first girl group Meovv, slated to launch in September.
The company released an introduction clip of the 15-year-old, who goes by her first name Ella, on its official YouTube channel on Aug 21.
The two-minute clip, which has garnered over a million views, is the first teaser clip released of Meovv. It is not yet known who the other members of the group are, though The Black Label is set to reveal them in the coming days.
Ella is seen in two outfits – an Adidas track jacket paired with a long puffy skirt and a black mini-dress and jacket combination – and she is quoted as saying: “I remember nothing but the destination I was heading to. Which is why I just got here.”
Born to a Korean mother and a German-American father, the teenager first entered the entertainment industry as a child model, who appeared in campaigns for brands such as Gap, Fendi and Levi’s.
She also acted in American series such as Heather (2018), Malibu Rescue (2019) and Star Trek: Picard (2020).
Several pictures of Ella with K-pop girl group Blackpink went viral in 2018, as netizens pointed out her resemblance to the quartet’s member Jennie. Ella – whose Instagram account has more than four million followers – has also been said to resemble South Korean actress Song Hye-kyo.
In 2018, she signed with The Black Label, an associate company of K-pop agency YG Entertainment, which debuted hit groups such as Blackpink and BigBang. The Black Label was co-founded by famed music producer Teddy Park, who is known for producing music for groups like BigBang, Blackpink and girl group 2NE1, and who will be behind the production of Meovv. – The Korea Herald/Asia News Network
