Former Category III actress Amy Yip recently threw a dinner party for her friends in Hong Kong, and the occasion was nothing short of lavish.
In a Weibo post on Sept 1, veteran media personality Wong Man Ling praised Yip, 58, as a gracious and considerate host.
She also shared photos from the evening – including a group picture with 19 people, one of Yip seemingly giving a speech and another of the dishes served.
Wong revealed that Yip had personally ordered a four pound (approximately 1.8kg) empurau fish from Malaysia for the dinner party.
“She called for the fish to be shipped from Malaysia early on. Everyone enjoyed it so much that they couldn’t stop eating until the plate was clean,” the 72-year-old wrote.
Dubbed the “King of the River”, the empurau or Tor tambroides, is touted as the most expensive freshwater fish in Malaysia, with prices reaching as high as RM1,800 (HK$3,241) per kg.
In Chinese, it is also called “Wang Bu Liao”, which translates to unforgettable – a nod to its exceptional taste and hefty price tag.
Wong also said Yip forked out approximately HK$8,000 (RM4,442) for a lucky draw session, where each winner received HK$1,000 (RM555). The grand prize amounted to HK$2,000 (RM1,110).
“I was one of the winners. It was a joyful night. I had a really great time,” she added.
Yip, famous for her roles in various Category III Hong Kong movies, has been living a low-key life since retiring from acting in 1997.
Despite her previous stance on staying retired, Yip said last year that she is open to participating in film projects as long as the role and script offered are compelling.
