The fight sequences in the action film Pungut, now showing at cinemas nationwide, are entirely performed by actors skilled in the martial art of silat.
Ruzaidi Abdul Rahman, who is in the cast, is confident this element will serve as an advantage for the movie and make it more appealing to audiences.
He said the film’s director Areel Abu Bakar, who also doubles up as action director, and the choreographer Mohd Koharullah are both silat practitioners, which contributed to the fight scenes being executed in a more organised and professional manner, meeting international standards.
"Even though I've acted alongside many well-known actors, if they don't have a foundation in silat and only train for the role, the result will not be the same as with actors who are actual silat practitioners.
"Being well-versed in the attacking and kicking techniques and various other movements and body reaction skills, the silat practitioners, who are also actors, portrayed them realistically and flawlessly,” Ruzaidi said after appearing as a guest on the ‘Apa Khabar Malaysia’ programme aired by Bernama TV today.
Pungut also has Aliff Yasraff, Fad Anuar and Megat Sharizal, all of whom possess silat skills, in its cast.
It tells the story of Salleh, played by Ruzaidi, who lives in a squatter village near a landfill site and makes a living as a scavenger.
Din Cengkoi, portrayed by Aman Graseka, is a gang leader who sees potential in the landfill for his illegal operations after being betrayed in his previous territory. – Bernama
