Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau gave fans a scare after taking a tumble during his Today... Is The Day tour in Shenzhen, China, on Monday (Sept 9).
In multiple videos that have gone viral on Chinese social media, Lau was seen walking along the stage while serenading fans with his song, Nan Ren Ku Ba Bu Shi Zui.
However, the singer-actor failed to notice an open trapdoor and stepped into the gap, causing him to fall onstage and hit his chest on the ground.
The scene drew startled screams from concertgoers.
Although Lau seemed visibly shocked, the 62-year-old regained his composure and got up to resume his performance.
In another video, the Heavenly King assured fans he was fine before taking a moment to get first aid. He was seen with a bandaged thumb when he returned.
"I hurt my thumb just now, don't worry about me, OK? I will be careful. I let my guard down earlier because it's my last concert here today ... I promised everyone that I would be safe and healthy, but I got hurt. I am sorry," he said.
Lau then joked: "When I get home later, my family will scold me. Please protect me and tell them I'm not to blame."
Later that day, the singer uploaded two photos from his concert on his social media accounts.
He captioned his post: “Thank you everyone. Let’s meet at the next stop!”
This incident sparked heated discussion online. Some netizens questioned the setup of the stage while others wished for Lau's safety.
“The trapdoor was closed before. Why did it open suddenly?” one netizen questioned.
Another said: “We must avoid falling as we get older. While Andy is in good shape, he is still a senior.”
“Why is there an empty space in the middle of the stage?” asked a third.
This isn’t the first time Lau gave fans a scare at his concert.
Earlier in July, the singer nearly fell off a 4m high platform after performing a dangerous stunt at his Shanghai concert. He apologised to fans at his show the next day.
Lau will bring his tour to Malaysia next month. The beloved singer will be performing at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur for four nights.
Tickets to his shows on Oct 24, 25, 26 and 27 sold out in two hours.
