Malaysian director and actor Syamsul Yusof has finally returned home to his parents after years apart.
The touching moment was shared by his mother Datin Patimah Ismail in an Instagram Story on Wednesday (Sept 11).
In one photo, Syamsul, 40, was seen smiling happily as he embraced his parents. The post was accompanied by Indonesian singer Sabyan’s song, Syukron Lillah, which carries a message of gratitude.
Another image showed Patimah beaming with joy as she linked arms with Syamsul, who was carrying his daughter Summayah.
Also present were Syamsul’s ex-wife Puteri Sarah Liyana and his father, Datuk Yusof Haslam, who both looked equally cheerful.
In an interview with Harian Metro, Yusof reiterated that he never once harboured any feelings of vengeance towards Syamsul even though they haven’t met in a long time.
He also admitted that he never expected his son to finally open up his heart and return home.
“Our prayers for Sol (Syamsul’s nickname) were finally answered after years.
“He contacted his mum earlier on Monday and said he wants to see us again. He embraced us cheerfully, and we enjoyed dinner together,” the 70-year-old said.
Yusof shared that reuniting with Syamsul left a significant emotional impact on both him and his wife.
“Of course, we cried because we have been waiting to reunite with him for years. When we met, we didn’t talk about the past and spoke casually. I hope this bond lasts forever,” he added.
In a previous interview with mStar, The Star’s Malay-language news portal, Yusof revealed that his last conversation with Syamsul took place via phone in 2022.
“Even before that, he hasn’t returned home in years. It’s all right though,” he said at the time.
In March last year, Yusof called for his son to return home despite the controversies tainting his name.
For the record, Syamsul made headlines in January last year after announcing that he had married Ira Kazar in Thailand without consulting his first wife Puteri Sarah. Syamsul and Puteri Sarah later divorced on June 14, 2023.
On Sept 5, Syamsul and Ira divorced after less than two years of marriage.
This comes after Ira was confirmed to have committed five taklik (conditional divorce) violations during their marriage by the Kuala Selangor Syariah Lower Court.
