Hong Kong actress Anita Yuen came to Malaysia in July to film her upcoming movie, Mum’s Big News.
During her time in the country, the 53-year-old seized the opportunity to indulge in the variety of delicious cuisines offered.
In a recent interview with Sin Chew Daily, Yuen said the first thing she did when she arrived here was to eat durian. She also tried asam laksa for the first time.
“I actually wanted to go to the night market, but my crew members didn’t allow me to.
“It’s not that I want to wander around, I just want to eat. Some food has to be hot and spicy for it to be enjoyable,” said the actress, who’s married to Hong Kong singer-actor Julian Cheung.
Yuen added that she had gained a lot of weight during her trip this time around and struggled to fit into a pair of pants that used to slip on with ease.
“I have a pair of pants which I could easily button up the first time I wore them. Now, I have to suck my stomach in to button it up!” she exclaimed.
Yuen also expressed her joy at having lok-lok trucks on set and wants to popularise these trucks back in Hong Kong.
“I think Hong Kong’s nightlife could have some (lok-lok) trucks. They have got soups, fried stuff ... Adults and kids love them, and they eat so happily,” she said.
Mum's Big News sees Yuen playing Rita Wong, a middle-aged woman who discovers her unexpected pregnancy while she and her husband plan their retirement.
The film, scheduled to be released on Chinese New Year in 2025, also stars a slew of Malaysian talents such as Chan Fong, Tong Bing Yu, Juztin Lan and Miko Wong.
