Former TVB actress Cindy Au is planning on taking more on-screen work following her divorce from Hong Kong actor Roger Kwok earlier in May.

In a recent interview with HK01, Au shared that her decision comes as she "really needs money".

“I really need money now. Many people in Hong Kong are in the same situation, just waiting for money,” the 44-year-old said.

After marrying Kwok, 59, in 2006, Au stepped back from the entertainment scene to focus on taking care of their two children – Brad, 16, and Blair, 13.

The Hong Kong actress later pursued a master’s degree in nutrition.

Au admitted that she feels out of touch with the world after being away from showbiz for so long and is now learning how to make money.

“I lack experience. I haven’t filmed any dramas since 2005, so I’m quite out of touch.

“Most of the time, I was busy taking care of my children during the day and studying at night. I didn't even keep up with the news that much.

“It’s like I’ve returned to Earth from Mars, so I need to learn how to make money,” she said.

Au mentioned that her biggest expense at the moment is rent.

She admitted that she felt overwhelmed when she first started looking for a place to rent.

“It was my first time renting a place by myself, and I didn’t know how much commission to pay. I had to ask many people for advice as I was afraid of being scammed,” she said.

The Misleading Track (2005) star expressed interest in buying a home but acknowledged that she needed to save up first.

“I haven’t worked or had any income for many years, so I don’t have that pot of gold,” she added.

When asked if friends have been introducing her to potential romantic partners, Au said: “Not many. They are probably afraid I’d be too much trouble.”

The actress also made it clear that romance is not her current priority, adding: “I’m thinking about money first.”

Au and Kwok announced their divorce on May 2, revealing that they have been separated for two years.

According to Dimsum Daily, Au chose to have her name excluded from Kwok’s assets worth HK$90mil (RM48.7mil) as she wanted to “avoid complications and unnecessary hassle”.
