Two years after registering their marriage, Taiwanese actress Joe Chen and her husband, Malaysian artist Alan Chen, have finally held their wedding reception in Langkawi, Kedah.
The intimate affair, which took place on Sept 22, was attended by family and close friends.
Taiwanese actors Joseph Cheng and Ming Dao served as best men, while the members of Joe’s former group, 7 Flowers, were the bridesmaids.
During her wedding speech, Joe reflected on her relationship with Alan and thanked him for being her husband, family and friend.
“The both of us always find excitement in exploring new things together – travelling, cycling to discover beautiful spots in Taipei, enjoying delicious food and watching movies together.
“We are glued to each other daily. I believe that when two people are happier together than being alone, that’s the true meaning of marriage,” the 45-year-old said.
Joe also reminisced about their first meeting on the 2019 dating show, Meeting Mr Right 2, describing Alan as “a gift specially designed for me by fate, arriving at the perfect time”.
“Your warmth and sincerity have softened my usually straightforward and sensitive nature. Having someone reliable by my side truly makes a difference,” she said.
The Fated To Love You (2008) star expressed gratitude to Alan for protecting her, putting her love first and allowing her to be her true self.
“Thank you for making me feel that this world is a good place, and that I’m good too. You are the best husband. Thank you for loving me. I love you, husband,” she said.
Meanwhile, Alan vowed to be patient with Joe, promising to be her source of strength.
“My dad says we are a perfect match in terms of fate ... No matter what we face, I will be like a mountain, your most reliable support,” said Alan, who's nine years younger than Joe.
According to Joe’s manager, Langkawi is special for the couple, as it’s where they first declared their love for each other.
Joe and Alan registered their marriage in Taipei City on March 31, 2022, but were unable to hold a wedding ceremony then due to the pandemic.
