Local actress Ira Kazar sought RM3,000 from her ex-husband, filmmaker Syamsul Yusof, for the inconvenience caused for her to attend the Syariah Lower Court in Gombak Timur, Selangor, on Wednesday (Sept 25) to solve their marital conflict.
However, Judge Maizatul Aliza Chee Din ruled that Syamsul, 40, only needed to pay Ira RM200 as an attendance fee.
Azmi Mohd Aris, the lawyer representing Syamsul, said he disagreed with Ira’s demands as the divorce had been efficiently finalised at the Kuala Selangor Syariah Lower Court on Sept 5.
He said the agenda for the appearance in court on Wednesday was to get the court's permission to withdraw the divorce claim filed by Syamsul on Aug 19.
He said: “Our side already filed a notice to rescind the case. However, Ira, who came with her lawyer, requested an attendance fee of RM3,000.
“To me, what’s important now is that both parties have already resolved the taklik violations issued at the Kuala Selangor Lower Syariah Court on the same day. And they've accepted the decision.
“Hence, we believe this has already saved time and cost for all parties,” he told mStar, The Star’s Malay-language news portal.
The withdrawal of a divorce claim can be handled solely by the lawyers.
According to Ira’s lawyer, Mohammad Fadhil Abdul Razak, the RM3,000 claim was justified.
He said: "Our reason for requesting RM3,000 was because it caused inconvenience to Ira, in addition to (Syamsul) not being transparent about the pronouncement of taklik outside of court in June.
On Sept 5, the Kuala Selangor Syariah Lower Court confirmed that Syamsul divorced Ira after she langgar taklik (breached conditions set by her husband during their marriage) on five counts since August.
Syamsul and Ira were married on Jan 6 last year in southern Thailand and registered their marriage in Perlis on January 20, 2023.
He was previously married to Puteri Sarah Liyana. They divorced on June 14 last year. They have two children, Syaikhul Islam, seven, and Sumayyah, five.
