Miley Cyrus and godmother Dolly Parton are related after all – a revelation that shocked the country staple.
The Jolene crooner, 78, and sister Rachel Parton George were promoting their new cookbook, Good Lookin’ Cookin’: A Year Of Meals on Access Hollywood when they learned the fun fact.
Per Ancestry.com, the outlet discovered that Cyrus, 31, is a seventh cousin, once removed.
“Is that true?! That’s amazing!” exclaimed the 10-time Grammy winner.
Parton added that she and the Flowers singer are “so close, I thought we would’ve been at least third cousins, 10 times removed.
“I’m sure she’ll get a kick out of that,” the 9 To 5 star continued. “But it doesn’t surprise me, because she does feel like family.”
Parton and Cyrus’ lineages align thanks to their great-grandfather, John Brickey, who in the early 1800s lived in Tennessee’s Blunt County, about 20 miles (32km) from Parton’s theme park, Dollywood.
The news would probably be welcome for the Hannah Montana star, who last week was sued for copyright infringement.
Tempo Music Investments alleged in their suit last week that Cyrus’ 2023 chart-topper, Flowers – which scored the Disney Channel alum her first two Grammys – ripped off Bruno Mars’ 2013 Grammy-nominated track, When I Was Your Man.
The company at the time claimed that "Flowers would not exist without When I Was Your Man,” adding that the songs’ similarities are “undeniable.” – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
