Chinese superstar Fan Bingbing is said to be filming in Alor Setar, Kedah, China Press reported.

Rumour has it that she’s in town to film a new movie by local director Chong Keat Aun.

On Sept 28, Fan took to Instagram to share a glimpse of her day, which started as early as 5.30am.

The movie star, who was appointed Visit Melaka 2024 ambassador in June, was later seen heading to the filming set by car.

“Waking up early is pure pain ... just look at my face,” the 43-year-old captioned her post.

The same day also saw Fan uploading four photos of the sunrise over a paddy field on Weibo.

Eagle-eyed netizens were quick to notice that the X-Men: Days Of Future Past star was in Alor Setar and left welcoming messages in the comments section.

“That’s my hometown,” said one fan.

Another added: “Welcome to Malaysia. You’re the best. So humble, hardworking and beautiful.”

Malaysia has become a hotspot for multiple international productions in recent months.

Last week, many Malaysians spotted Medan Pasar, Kuala Lumpur, in the first teaser trailer for Marvel's upcoming movie, Thunderbolts*.

English actress Florence Pugh, who plays the film's lead character Yelena Belova, also seemingly confirmed shooting a skydiving scene at KL's Merdeka 118 – the second tallest building in the world (678.9m).

Hong Kong stars Eric Tsang, Bobby Au-yeung and Edmond So were also in Malaysia in August to film a Chinese New Year movie.

During a press conference in KL, Tsang, who serves as the general manager of TVB, said Malaysia is like a “best friend” to many Hong Kong talents.
