Former Hong Kong actress Amy Yip marked her first visit to Malaysia on Sept 25 with a trip to Penang.
She was in the state for the opening of her boutique hotel.
In an interview with local media, Yip said this is her first business venture in the country, and she has plans to open three more branches in Penang.
The 58-year-old, famous for her roles in Category III films, also mentioned that she will visit Malaysia more often now that she owns a business here.
Yip revealed that she hadn’t taken a flight in nearly 20 years due to a past incident that left her afraid of flying. However, she decided to make an exception for this trip.
“Many friends invited me to Malaysia a year ago, but I refused many times due to my fear of flying.
“That’s because I took a plane to Taiwan and encountered a No.10 hurricane signal.
“The plane circled in the sky for almost an hour, unable to land. The pilot eventually had to turn back because there was not enough fuel,” she said.
During her time in Malaysia, Yip took the opportunity to indulge in various cuisines, including durian, which she would ask her friends to ship to her in Hong Kong.
The Robotrix star recently made news when she ordered a 1.8kg empurau fish from Malaysia for a dinner party in Hong Kong.
Touted as the most expensive freshwater fish in Malaysia, the empurau or Tor tambroides can fetch a price of up to RM1,800 (HK$3,241) per kg.
Yip, who retired from acting in 1997, joked that she gained 10 pounds from eating so much during her recent trip and will exercise once she returns to Hong Kong.
She shared that many friends have urged her to find love in Malaysia, adding: “Malaysian men are honest, good men.”
Yip also listed “chemistry” as the most important factor when looking for a partner.
“They should also treat me well. Ideally, they should be able to take care of me instead of me having to take care of them,” she said.
