Hong Kong-based singer-actor Law Kar-ying has been happily married to fellow actress Liza Wang for over 15 years.
But before finding his true love in Wang, 77, he had dated a Malaysian woman, who was actually his first girlfriend.
Law, who's born in China, revealed this in a recent interview with Hong Kong media, where he praised Malaysian women, saying: “They are passionate and considerate individuals.”
The 78-year-old was then asked to share his thoughts on the romance rumours surrounding singer Edan Lui of the popular Hong Kong boy band Mirror and local actress Lin Min Chen.
The actor collaborated with Lui, 27, on the Hong Kong adaptation of the hit Korean drama Business Proposal.
Law, who will be coming to Malaysia for a joint concert in December, admitted that he’s not the best person to offer relationship advice.
The From Beijing With Love star said: “If I had succeeded in my relationships, I would have married earlier and had children. I wouldn’t have married at the age of 62.”
However, Law acknowledged that his journey in pursuing Wang taught him the importance of patience when it comes to love.
“Pursuing someone comes with painful memories. It took me 20 years. Patience is very important,” he said.
According to reports, Law proposed to Wang almost 20 times during their courtship.
However, Wang was hesitant at the time due to her turbulent marriage to businessman Lau Cheung Wah between 1971 and 1983.
In 2004, Wang changed her mind after Law was diagnosed with liver cancer. He later recovered and thanked her for helping him pull through during that challenging time.
The couple tied the knot in Las Vegas on May 2, 2009.
