TikTok lifestyle influencer Taylor Rousseau Grigg died from complications with asthma and Addison’s disease, her family said.
Grigg, 25, died Oct 4. She had alluded to her health issues previously, saying she was “fighting for (her) life every day” and in unrelenting pain after becoming ill in August 2023.
Her husband, Cameron Grigg, described her death as “sudden and unexpected,” last week.
“Addison’s disease, also called adrenal insufficiency, is an uncommon illness that occurs when the body doesn’t make enough of certain hormones,” according to the Mayo Clinic. “In Addison’s disease, the adrenal glands make too little cortisol and, often, too little of another hormone, aldosterone.”
The rare disease often presents symptoms slowly over several months and can include a variety of symptoms, including extreme fatigue; weight loss and loss of appetite; darkened skin; low blood pressure; a craving for salt; low blood sugar; nausea, diarrhea and vomiting; abdominal, muscle and joint pain; and hair loss.
It can eventually cause acute adrenal failure, shock, delirium and loss of consciousness.
Roughly 1-in-100,000 people in United States have Addison’s disease, according to the National Organization for Rare Disorders. However, it can go undiagnosed so the rate of affliction could be higher. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
