Indonesian actor Baim Wong is determined to divorce his wife, fellow actress Paula Verhoeven, after failing to resolve their marital dispute amicably through mediation (sulh) on Wednesday (Oct 23).
According to Baim’s lawyer Fahmi Bachmid, the actor has come to terms with the reality that divorce is the only solution to his ongoing marital problems.
“He wants to resolve his marital issues and bring everything to a close through divorce,” Fahmi said, as quoted by mStar, The Star’s Malay-language news portal.
He also told Indonesian media that Baim had been considering divorcing his wife for over a year now.
“He’s been thinking about it for over a year and has been living separately (from his wife) for seven months,” he added.
Meanwhile, Paula, 37, has declined to comment on the marital rift.
Baim, whose real name is Muhammad Ibrahim, filed for divorce from Paula on Oct 7.
At the time, the 43-year-old actor cited infidelity as the reason for divorce and accused Paula of cheating on him with his close friend.
“I held on for a year because of our children,” he said during a press conference.
For the record, Baim and Paula tied the knot in November 2018.
The estranged couple have two children together – Kiano, three, and Kenzo, two.
