Singaporean singer-actress Eleanor Lee has sparked concerns over her health with her recent social media post.
The 25-year-old, who is based in China, posted on Instagram on Oct 24 a video of herself in a hospital bed and in a wheelchair, with the lyrics of her latest song, Change, playing over the clip.
In the later part of the reel, she is seen learning from medical staff how to administer a subcutaneous injection to her thigh and later doing it by herself. It is not known what medical condition she is suffering from.
“Believe me when I say I’m changing with the seasons. Change out now on Spotify,” she wrote, quoting a lyric from Change.
Her mother, Taiwan-born Singaporean TV host Quan Yifeng, commented on Lee’s post: “It’s fine. Every cloud has a silver lining. Everything will get better.”
The same video was also posted on Lee’s Douyin account on Oct 20, with the Chinese caption addressing her followers: “Learn to take care of your body and grow up healthy. Many people asked me why I have disappeared for such a long time. I have to give myself injections every month. Both you and I have to take good care of our bodies.”
In response to queries from The Straits Times on her condition, her agency Red Dot Entertainment said: “This was caused by her being too tired from filming before. She is much better now.”
Lee, who recently starred in the Chinese crime action movie To Live Through Death (2024), revealed in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar Singapore’s October issue that she was diagnosed with depression and anxiety.
Referring to her song Change, which addresses mental health, she said: “I want to take away the stigma because it’s not a bad thing. I’m just hopeful that by sharing this, someone out there feels less alone. Depression and anxiety shouldn’t define you.” – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
