Barbie is now a mum.

According to American entertainment news outlet People, Margot Robbie, lead actress and producer of the 2023 blockbuster Barbie, has given birth to her first child – a baby boy – with her husband Tom Ackerley.

Details about their son’s name and date of birth have yet to be revealed, though British tabloid Daily Mail reported that Robbie went into labour around two weeks ago, slightly before her expected due date.

News about the 34-year-old Australian star’s pregnancy first broke in July. The couple were later photographed in Beverly Hills at a Sept 9 screening of the film My Old Ass, which they produced through their production company LuckyChap Entertainment.

Robbie was seen then in a figure-hugging grey dress, which flaunted her baby bump. The comedy-drama film stars American actress Aubrey Plaza.

Robbie first met British film producer Ackerley, also 34, in 2013 on the set of the World War II drama Suite Francaise (2014), where he was an assistant director and she was an actress. They married in 2016.

The pair co-founded LuckyChap Entertainment in 2014 and began championing female-focused productions.

Aside from Barbie, the company has produced commercially and critically successful films and television series including I, Tonya (2017), which starred Robbie and landed her a Best Actress nomination at the Oscars; the rape revenge thriller Promising Young Woman (2020); and the superhero movie Birds Of Prey (2020). – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
