Hong Kong actress Kristal Tin has undergone surgery after being diagnosed with early-stage lung cancer.
On Tuesday (Dec 3), the 47-year-old took to Instagram to share photos of herself lying on a hospital bed, revealing that the diagnosis came after a routine health check-up.
The former TVB star also shared that her husband, actor Chapman To, 52, was “very anxious” upon learning of her diagnosis.
Aside from conducting online research, To also consulted with doctors in both Taiwan, where they live, and Hong Kong.
Acting on the advice of a physician in Hong Kong, the pair ultimately decided to seek a doctor at Taiwan's Chang Gung Memorial Hospital.
“From consultations to arranging the surgery, Mr To asked every question in detail – from which surgery would be the best for me to my well-being after the operation.
“Each time he finished asking a question, he would ask me if I had any other questions, and I’d always say ‘no’,” Tin wrote.
Although it was her first time undergoing surgery, Tin shared that she didn’t feel nervous and joked that her husband was likely more anxious than she was.
However, she did experience some pain following the surgery and had to undergo rehabilitation to aid in her lung recovery.
“Even though I was on painkillers after my lung surgery, every breath was painful. I had to undergo rehabilitation to help my lungs return to normal,” she said.
Tin then went on to praise Taiwan’s healthcare system, expressing gratitude for the medical staff who provided her with excellent care.
“They not only explained the process in detail but also kept encouraging and supporting me throughout. I’m grateful to Dr Chao and the medical staff. You’re all amazing!
“Finally, of course, I must thank Mr To for his arrangements and care throughout the entire process. I really have to say, I’m so lucky to have you,” she wrote.
The Love Exchange (2008) star also urged her fans not to worry as she’s recuperating well, adding: “The surgery was a great success, and this patient is doing very well.”
Tin, who married To in 2005, made her acting debut under ATV in 1995 and remained with the broadcaster for 12 years before switching to TVB.
With TVB, the actress has starred in dramas like Be Home For Dinner (2011), King Maker (2012), Brother's Keeper (2013) and more. She left the broadcaster in 2020 after her contract expired.
