Singer Datuk Sheila Majid expressed her frustration after learning that her image and name were being misused by irresponsible parties to spread fake news on social media.
Referring to the edited photo, the 59-year-old described the act as crossing the line.
She said via Instagram on Tuesday (Dec 3): "Astaghfirullah... This is evil... They’ve gone too far”
Sheila shared a screenshot of the false report, apparently by The Star, which showed her being escorted by authorities.
The image included a misleading headline, "Police arrested Sheila Majid after her speech on economic opportunities for the people" aiming to confuse readers.
Questioning the purpose of spreading such fake news, Sheila urged authorities to take action.
"What is their goal? Can someone explain? Can the authorities catch these scammers?" she wrote in the caption.
In the comment section, many netizens condemned the act, labelling it as disrespectful.
Sheila is not the first celebrity to be targeted. Previously, other big names such as Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza and Alif Satar were also victims of similar scams.
