Hong Kong actor Vinci Wong has filed for bankruptcy at the city’s High Court, Dimsum Daily reported.
The filing was submitted on Dec 13, with the hearing scheduled for Jan 21 next year.
Hong Kong media outlets alleged that a credit firm recently sought to recover approximately HK$2.93mil (RM1.68mil) from the 54-year-old actor.
On Monday (Dec 16), Wong issued a statement acknowledging the bankruptcy filing and said the decision was made after careful consideration and consultation with various parties.
However, the former TVB star refrained from addressing rumours about the debt collection efforts of the financial agency.
“As the case has now entered legal proceedings, I’m unable to provide any further comments,” he said, urging everyone to give him space and time to handle everything.
While Wong was certain that a tough journey lies ahead, he’s not giving up hope.
“I will continue facing it with positivity and strength,” he added.
According to Dimsum Daily, Wong is the grandson of WWK Distribution Limited founder Wong Sha San.
Over the years, he has served as a host for various programmes and appeared in dramas such as Life For Life, Healing Hands II, Hidden Treasures and more.
In addition to his showbiz career, he is also active in the business world, previously serving as the chairman of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals in 2018.
