Hong Kong-based Malaysian actress Angie Cheong made headlines when it was revealed that she had adopted a two-year-old boy from China in 2006.

The boy, whom she named Hanson, was suffering from a congenital heart condition when she first met him at a medical facility in China.

Cheong’s devotion as a mother became evident as she remained by her son’s side every step of the way, supporting him through his battle with the condition.

The Money Game actress made Hanson her priority, even taking a break from acting to care for him. When she eventually returned to work, it was reported that she ensured she was always home on weekends to spend time with Hanson.

Recently, the 54-year-old shared a heartfelt post on the Chinese video-sharing platform Douyin about the ups and downs of raising Hanson over the past 18 years.

In her video, titled I Am Proud To Be A Mother, Cheong revealed what she described as the greatest challenge she has faced as Hanson’s mother.

As reported by China Press, Cheong spoke with tears in her eyes: “The biggest challenge in caring for Hanson over the years has been his health.

“I remember in 2018, he underwent a major surgery. After the operation, his recovery was far from ideal – he didn’t even know who I was and couldn’t speak.

“I was devastated and terribly afraid that he might remain like this forever.”

Doctors at the time warned Cheong to mentally prepare herself for the possibility that Hanson’s condition might never improve.

She recalled that during those difficult moments, all she could do was pray for Hanson’s recovery: “So now, I’m incredibly grateful that Hanson has slowly recovered.

“These experiences have taught me that a child’s health is the greatest treasure.

“We’ve faced these challenges, and I believe that as long as Hanson and I work hard together, we can overcome any obstacles in life and create a truly loving and warm environment.”

The video touched many netizens, who praised Cheong for her kind heart and for being a great mum.

“A mother’s love is truly great. Angie Cheong, your love shines brightly,” wrote one.

“What a remarkable mother – ever since having a child, she’s willing to do everything for her son,” another commented.

“Hanson is so lucky to have found such a wonderful mother,” remarked another user.
