Hong Kong “Heavenly Kings” Andy Lau and Aaron Kwok gave their fans a scare at their concerts on Dec 27.
Lau, 63, is on his 20-day Today... Is The Day Andy Lau Concert Tour at the Hong Kong Coliseum. Kwok, 59, held his Iconic World Tour at the Taipei Arena from Dec 27 to 29.
In videos circulating on social media, Lau was performing his song Practice (2002) on a 3m-tall platform when he lost his balance and fell.
The singer-actor managed to stop himself from sliding off the stage, as fans gasped and shouted his name. He paused for about five seconds before sitting up and continuing his performance.
He assured his fans on the Andy World Club account’s Instagram Stories early on Dec 28, writing: “Dear family members: I’m fine. Thank you for your love. See you in my dreams.”
Lau, who recently starred in the films High Forces (2024) and Cesium Fallout (2024), had a similar near-miss on stage earlier in 2024.
During the Shanghai leg of his tour in July, while sliding on his knees, he narrowly avoided plunging over a 4m-high platform.
Meanwhile, Kwok, returning to perform at the Taipei Arena for the first time in five years, had a cut on one of his fingers at his concert, according to Hong Kong media.
The singer-actor was seen in social media videos making a heart gesture onstage to his fans while moving backwards. He then fell into an open trapdoor and a loud sound was heard.
He took to social media on Dec 28 to reassure his fans.
“After performing my song Love Sharing during the middle part of the show, I missed a step while going down the elevator,” he wrote in Chinese. “There was a loud noise as my microphone hit the steel part of the stage, and the new microphone was slightly scratched.”
He added: “But I didn’t hit anything. Thank you for your concern and I’m really sorry for making so many people worry.” – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
