South Korean rapper J-Hope of K-pop boy band BTS has joined fellow celebrities in donating money to help the families of the victims of the deadly air crash in Muan county, South Korea.
A Jeju Air plane carrying 181 passengers and crew members crashed into a barrier at Muan International Airport on Dec 29, resulting in 179 fatalities and two injuries. The South Korean government has designated a week-long national mourning period until Jan 4.
J-Hope, whose real name is Jung Ho-seok, donated 100 million won, Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association said in a press statement on Jan 2.
The singer's donation came after South Korean singer-actor Yim Si-wan donated an undisclosed amount to the same organisation.
“I express my deep condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families who lost their beloved family members due to the unexpected tragedy,” the 36-year-old said in a press statement on Dec 31.
Yim, a member of K-pop boy band ZE:A, recently starred in Netflix’s Squid Game 2 (2024) as a cryptocurrency influencer.
South Korean sports announcer Lee Na-yeon and rapper DinDin donated 10 million won each to the Korean Red Cross, while Jin of K-pop girl group Lovelyz also gave a sum of money to the charity.
South Korean comedienne Park Na-rae, who was born in Muan, donated money to the Community Chest of Korea, according to Korea JoongAng Daily. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
