Hong Kong singer Calvin Choy recently marked his 60th birthday in a star-studded celebration.
On Jan 4, a day after his birthday, Choy shared on Instagram a video of Chow Yun Fat, TVB star Natalie Tong and their group of running buddies, all singing “Happy Birthday” to him.
The post also included a selfie of the singer with Chow, 69.
“Thank you to Fat Gor and my group of running buddies for preparing this birthday surprise for me,” he wrote in the caption.
The festivities didn't stop there. On Jan 5, numerous celebrities took to social media to share photos from Choy’s birthday party.
Among the high-profile guests were Louis Koo, Charlene Choi, Joey Yung, Julian Cheung and his wife Anita Yuen, and Kenny Kwan, among others.
In an Instagram update, Charlene reflected on her friendship with Choy, a member of the three-piece band Grasshopper.
The 42-year-old singer shared that her father once had a part-time job assisting an entertainment company with overseas performances of Hong Kong singers.
Charlene, who rose to fame as part of the Cantopop duo Twins alongside Gillian Chung in 2001, added that Grasshopper and singer Cass Phang Ling were the first celebrities she met.
“I was six years old ... I can’t remember the specifics as I was very young at the time.
“Fast forward to Twins’ first concert, which took place less than a year after our debut, we had only six songs to perform.
“Our company brought in some well-known senior singers to support the show, and one of them was Grasshopper,” she said.
Charlene admitted that she initially thought the members wouldn’t recognise her. However, when they spotted her mum during rehearsal, they greeted the latter and said it had been a long time.
“Wow! After all these years, they still remembered my mum,” she said.
