Lu Han, a popular Chinese actor and singer, has apologised for his inappropriate behaviour during a live stream in November 2024 after his social media accounts were blocked on Jan 6.
“I sincerely apologise for setting a bad example during the live broadcast. I will rectify the negative social consequences and bear responsibility as an artiste,” the 34-year-old said in an apology posted on Weibo by the official account of his studio on the afternoon of Jan 6.
“In future, I will be stricter with my conduct,” he added.
Earlier on Jan 6, netizens found that they were unable to follow Lu’s personal accounts on Weibo, Xiaohongshu and Douyin, which are popular social media platforms in China. The platforms indicated that his accounts had “violated laws and regulations or community norms”.
During a live stream on Douyin on Nov 29, 2024, Lu was seen drinking alcohol and pointing the middle finger, directing the gesture at his detractors. He appeared intoxicated and made strange facial expressions and gestures, according to Chinese media outlet Jiupai News.
Some fans expressed support for him, while other netizens criticised his inappropriate behaviour as a public figure.
Lu, also known mononymously as Luhan, debuted as a member of the South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO in South Korea in 2012. He returned to China to develop his career in 2014.
He has starred in films such as 20 Once Again (2015) and The Witness (2015) as well as TV series Fighter Of The Destiny (2017). – China Daily/Asia News Network
