It was a bittersweet moment for actress Yvonne Lim (pic) as she returned to Singapore after living in Taiwan for 10 years.
The 48-year-old has been there since marrying Taiwanese businessman Alex Tien, 45, in 2014. They have a son AJ, 10, and daughter Alexa, eight.
“Taipei wasn’t just a city to us – it was where memories were made, milestones were celebrated, and life unfolded in ways we never imagined,” Lim wrote on social media on Jan 12.
“As the plane took off, I couldn’t help but feel a wave of emotions. Excitement, nostalgia and a little bit of nervousness all mixed together. Returning to Singapore feels like stepping into a new chapter, yet it’s also a homecoming to where it all began.”
Lim – who starred in Mediacorp dramas such as Stepping Out (1999), A New Life (2005) and Metamorphosis (2007) – won her 10th Top 10 Most Popular Female Artiste prize at the Star Awards in 2024. She will receive the All-Time Favourite Artiste Award in 2025.
The actress also shared a video titled Thanks For The Memories! on her YouTube channel, which showed her family’s trip from Taiwan to Singapore.
“I’m feeling a little conflicted, a little reluctant, but I’m looking forward to it too,” she narrated in the video. “I don’t know what it would be like when I go back.”
She said it usually meant an overseas holiday when her family went to Taoyuan International Airport, but this time, they were going home instead.
“It feels very different,” she said. “I suddenly feel nervous for no reason.”
Lim asked her children during the flight how they felt about moving to Singapore. AJ and Alexa said they were very happy, although AJ added he would miss his friends in Taiwan.
The video then showed the family arriving at Changi Airport and being welcomed by friends, such as Singaporean actress Hong Huifang.
“I suddenly realised how much I missed them,” Lim said. “I immediately felt a sense of warmth in my heart.”
She added: “The warmth of Singapore, combined with good friends by my side – I realised at this moment that this has always been my home.” – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
