The long-standing marriage of actor Edika Yusof and his wife, Nor Hidayah Yusri, appeared to be coming to an end after she filed for divorce in mid-February.

Her presence at the Federal Territory Syariah Court in Kuala Lumpur on Monday morning surprised media personnel who were covering another high-profile divorce case involving Farid Kamil and Diana Danielle.

Confirming that there were issues in their marriage, Syariah lawyer Mohd Yazid Hazim, who represented Hidayah, said that his client had officially filed for divorce from the actor.

However, during the first court proceeding, Edika, as the defendant, was absent after informing the court that he could not attend due to work commitments.

“The defendant (Edika) was supposed to be present, but we received a letter from his side stating that he could not attend due to work and other matters.

“So, the court set April 23 as the next mention date,” Yazid told reporters outside the Federal Territory Syariah Court in Kuala Lumpur.

When asked about the reason for the divorce, Yazid refrained from sharing details due to legal restrictions.

However, he acknowledged that a lack of mutual understanding was the primary factor.

The lawyer stated that revealing the specific grounds for filing would be sub judice to the defendant.

“Perhaps these reasons would be presented based on the Judge’s directives on April 23. But generally, it was due to a lack of understanding between the plaintiff and the defendant,” he said.

Hidayah, on the other hand, chose not to elaborate on her decision, stating that she preferred to hear from her husband first before making any statements.

“Everyone knew my situation and condition, so if I had reached the point of going to court, there must be a very strong reason why I had done so. So, that is all I could say. I did not want to give any comments.

“You could ask the other party because I did not want anything to come from my mouth. I would rather listen first to what came from his mouth,” she said.

She also admitted that she no longer live with Edika but did not provide further details.

The couple’s story previously touched many hearts when it was revealed that Edika had been taking care of Hidayah, who became partially paralysed after giving birth to their second child 16 years ago.

For nearly 22 years, Edika and Hidayah had built a life together and were blessed with three children: Nazirul Afiq, Fardeen Nasrulhaq and Fereena Nurulhaq.

However, it now seemed that their love story had reached an unexpected turning point. – Sinar Daily
