While many of us found comfort in communicating and transacting online during the pandemic, Alia Affendy had to deactivate all her online profiles because she was bullied and harassed online to the point that she felt attacked and physically unsafe.

Alia was one of 26 women who testified at the Women's Tribunal Malaysia late last month. She shared about how she’d been harassed and doxxed online for airing her views on the change in government back in 2020. Hurtful comments about her (including body shaming comments) and threats were aimed at her just because she dared to speak openly of her views about the politics of the day.
