Tupperware launches TwinkleTup kids range



Tupperware's new range for kids – TwinkleTup – seeks to be more than just a drinking and feeding range. The products also hope to be used as fun toys and help with hand-eye coordination, self-feeding and self-confidence.

That's a tall order for any product. But, coming from Tupperware, a name that has become synonymous with containers, you better believe the company is serious about its aim.

David Wong, area vice-president and managing director of Tupperware Brands South-East Asia Markets, announced the range for babies and toddlers from six months to 36 months at a media launch in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, on Wednesday.

KL is the first city worldwide to launch TwinkleTup.

“Since we launched Tupperware brand into the world, not a single day has gone by without requests from parents to have a range of products especially for children.

“TwinkleTup was designed and developed after very extensive research and development. We consulted mothers, teachers and child development specialists all over the world, including from Malaysia.

“It has taken us several years to develop this. We spent a lot of time in research and development mainly because we wanted to bring to you not just a drinking and feeding system but we wanted to ensure the products are educational, designed to be a fun toy, as well as an innovative tool for learning, to enhance and develop a child's motor skills, improve their eye-hand coordination and enhance self-confidence as they grow.

“We also took a lot of time because we wanted to ensure all products met high standards and are safe, educational and good enough to carry the Tupperware brand name,” he said.

According to Karen Ng, senior marketing manager, Tupperware Brands Malaysia, the company also did focus group studies which included getting feedback from parents and children. Only after everyone was happy with it did the product get the go-ahead.

“The kids market is very important. In Malaysia, over 18% of the population is below 10 years. There was a gap between the baby bottles and our adult containers here in Malaysia and we wanted an updated range of products with colourful bright colours to make it feel like it's a fun toy for the children,” she said.

Among the people who were consulted before TwinkleTup was launched was child development specialist Ruth Liew.

At the launch, Liew pointed out that it is important for children to use drinking cups and bottles as well as cutlery which are easy to grip as this would encourage self-feeding. Such products would also improve hand-eye coordination and make kids more independent and self-confident.

Model, actress, TV host and entrepreneur Dynas Mokhtar and TV host and actress Lynn Lim were also at the launch to share their experiences with TwinkleTup.

The TwinkleTup range consists of products for babies aged six to 18 months and toddlers aged 18-36 months.


The six to 18 months Totz Set includes the Training Cup, Easy Grip Bowl & Spoon, and Snack Cup. This is priced at RM57.20 in Peninsular Malaysia and RM62.90 in Sabah and Sarawak.

The 18-36 months Kidz Set includes the Straw Tumbler and Straw Brush, Feeding Bowl and Cutlery Set. The set is priced at RM66.30 in Peninsular Malaysia and RM72.90 in Sabah and Sarawak.

Tupperware intends to extend its range of products for kids in the future.

According to Tupperware, TwinkleTup is BPA-free, non-toxic, colour-safe and children-safe. The products are said to comply with international standards and come with a lifetime warranty.

The TwinkleTup products will be available in the market from April 1, 2013.
