Sometimes, it feels like the word ‘modest’ is synonymous with ‘old-fashioned’, but that’s definitely not the case in Parkson’s latest Raya collection.
DURING her recent travels, fashion designer Melinda Looi was so moved by the disparity between the rich and poor that she immediately set a plan in motion to develop a charity fashion label as an ongoing effort to help the less fortunate. The result – a limited-edition annual charity Hari Raya collection called “emel by Melinda Looi” (the word emel being derived from the word amal, which means hope, expectation and aspiration in Arabic) – is a new sub-brand that offers a range of affordable, yet no less spectacular, ready-to-wear apparel.
