ABOUT eight years ago, I was asked by my Sufi Sheikh (Master) to visit the mausoleum of one of the greatest Sufi Sheikhs to have served this region. It was situated on one of the beautiful islands off the coast of Malacca.  

Since I could not leave KL early due to work commitments, I arrived in Malacca town in the evening with my family in tow, including two young daughters. I had intended to rest overnight in the historical town and proceed to the island the next morning. However, I received instructions to carry on with the journey. It was going to be my first visit to the island, so I was apprehensive.
