Take more dairy to prevent falls and fractures in the elderly


Achieving the recommended daily intake of calcium and protein from additional dairy products like milk and cheese, had the same effect in reducing the risk of falls and fractures in the elderly as potent drug therapy to increase bone strength in people with osteoporosis. — AFP

Increasing intake of foods rich in calcium and protein such as milk, yoghurt and cheese, reduces falls and fractures in older adults living in residential care.

This was the result of a randomised controlled trial published by the medical journal The BMJ on Oct 20 (2021).
