Pandas no longer endangered, but gorillas are close to dying out

Experts are happy that the panda is off the endangered list but is concerned about the gorilla's future.

Great news, bad news in conservation this week.

A survey has found that decades of conservation work in China have paid off for the giant panda (ailuropoda melanoleuca), whose status was upgraded Sunday (Sept 4) from “endangered” to “vulnerable” due to a population rebound, officials said.
