The Year Of The Rabbit is still hopping along merrily, and Maison Martell is commemorating it in a big way, with a spectacular new limited addition to the Zodiac Edition collection of their most prestigious cognac, L’Or De Jean Martell 1715 – the Assemblage du Lapin, or the Martell Zodiac Rabbit.

Maison Martell first launched the Zodiac Edition in 2022 with the L’Assemblage du Tigre as an ode to the Year Of the Tiger. It was a huge success thanks to the cultural significance of the bottle, as well as the spectacular liquid it houses.

This year, Martell Cellar Master Christophe Valtaud has also crafted an elegant and unique cognac to commemorate the Year Of The Rabbit to be contained inside that iconic L’Or de Jean Martell 1715 crystal decanter. Each decanter is numbered and is embellished with gold-painted décor that marks the Year of the Rabbit.

The showpiece of the decanter is its one-of-a-kind rabbit-shaped crystal stopper, once again produced and signed by the renowned French Crystal House Manufacturer, Daum. Each crystal stopper requires countless hours of painstaking work by the manufacturer's skilled artisans.

But the tribute to the Year Of The Rabbit doesn’t just stop at the decanter and the stopper – the liquid itself is also exceptional.

The pinnacle of the Martell range, L’Or de Jean Martell 1715 is a remarkable and complex blend of 700 eaux-de-vie, each of which has attained its aromatic plenitude.

For the Assemblage du Lapin, Valtaud has preserved the aromatic profile of L’Or de Jean Martell 1715, but at the same time created a unique and masterful blend of 700 eaux-de-vie (or ‘water of life’, which is the spirit derived from the distillation of grapes), including vintage eaux-de-vie from previous Years of the Rabbit, each selected to subtly evoke characteristics associated with the animal.

The sensual journey of flavours starts with the nose, where a beautiful acacia honey note dances with hints of chamomile and linden infusions, which then evolve into notes of myrrh, represented by its tonicity, floral, fruity and vanilla side.

On the palate, the Assemblage du Lapin is round, supple, and silky, with notes of candied apricots, dried prunes and honeyed fruits. Mid-palate, you get a surprisingly lively synergy between various subtle notes, ranging from red fruits, to black fruits in syrup; maraschino and amarena cherries, all of which linger on for a long, satisfying finish.

As a result, L’Or de Jean Martell Zodiac Edition – Assemblage du Lapin has all the elegance of the original expression, combined with greater softness, subtlety and finesse.

The L’Or de Jean Martell Assemblage du Lapin is another addition to Martell’s illustrious lineup of cognacs. It is truly a cognac to savour neat, and for sipping slowly so that you enjoy the subtle nuances of the golden liquid.

Only 30 bottles of the L’Or de Jean Martell Assemblage du Lapin are available in Malaysia at approximately RM55,000 per bottle via direct purchase only. To place your order, please call Trisha Kuck (016-4284403).
