When it comes to cinema’s greatest characters, there are few as iconic as James Bond.
For 60 years, the British super spy, designated 007, has thrilled movie audiences all over the world with his daring adventures, smooth style, and impeccable taste.
An icon like Bond deserves only the best, so it is only natural that his Scotch whisky of choice would be The Macallan.
The Macallan has appeared in various Bond movies over the years, most notably In 2012’s Skyfall, in which antagonist Raoul Silva (played by Javier Bardem) pours him a dram of The Macallan Fine & Rare 1962, in tribute to the franchise’s 50th anniversary that year.
The James Bond film franchise celebrated its 60th anniversary in October 2022, making it one of the longest running and most loved franchises in the world of entertainment, with 25 films spanning six decades and featuring six lead actors.
To celebrate the momentous milestone, The Macallan collaborated with EON Productions to create a collection of limited edition single malt whiskies inspired by The Six Decades of James Bond, as well as a series of immersive experiences.
This remarkable collection comprises six limited edition bottles, encasing a single malt whisky in unique packs, each featuring an original illustrative design and colour to denote the decade it represents.
The distinctive packaging brings to life the creative development process of the films in a behind the scenes exploration of the James Bond archives.
Inside the bottles is an exceptional single malt whisky, lovingly crafted by The Macallan Master Whisky Maker, Kirsteen Campbell to reflect the enduring character of James Bond, a force of nature defined by his Scottish heritage, who carries himself with modesty and humility.
Like Bond, the expression exudes a sense of style and maturity which has evolved over the years. It has a natural colour of Suisse gold and an ABV of 43.7% as an homage to James Bond’s agent number, 007.
On the nose, you get fresh and vibrant notes of lemon and lime, a sprinkle of sherbet, leading into a sweet vanilla and coconut, with a hint of dried fig and raisin. Orange zest and fizzy sherbet with a lemon freshness come in on the palate, with gentle oak and subtle ginger spice.
This leads into deep dark chocolate notes, figs and baked apple tart with a honey drizzle, before closing with a sweet and long finish with complex layers.
“James Bond celebrates its 60th anniversary, making it the longest running and one of the most loved franchises in the world of entertainment, comprising 25 films over six decades and six lead actors over time,” says Jaume Ferras, Global Creative Director for The Macallan.
“The Macallan is James Bond’s whisky of choice and as two renowned global brands, we share many synergies, most notably as modern innovators linked by our Scottish heritage.”
