With its romantic and elegant appeal, there is much to draw one to Parisian style and design, something homemaker Lily Yusra would readily agree with.

The 29-year-old mother of one lives in a 1,000sq ft (93sq m) three-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment in Cyberjaya which she has done up in a predominantly Parisian Chic theme.

“I chose this style for its timeless elegance and sophisticated charm. I appreciate the Parisian decor for its ability to infuse a sense of romance and classic aesthetics into the living space.

“The combination of ornate detailing, vintage elements and a subtle colour palette creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. Parisian decor allows me to blend traditional and modern elements seamlessly, resulting in a home that reflects both my personal style and a touch of timeless allure,” said Lily, who first moved into the apartment in May 2022.

Taking centre stage in her living room is a free standing, triple-panel gilded mirror and a classy chandelier. The freestanding mirror and chandelier serve as the key focal points in the living room. The freestanding mirror and chandelier serve as the key focal points in the living room.

“The freestanding mirror and chandelier serve as the key focal points in my living room. People often ask me about the whereabouts of my TV, wondering if I replaced it with the standing mirror for aesthetic reasons. Well, the truth is, my husband and I don’t watch TV at all, so I don’t see the need to have one at home.

“Instead we decided to have the freestanding mirror as it adds a touch of spaciousness and reflects natural light, making the room feel brighter and more open. Its elegant design also enhances the overall aesthetic.

“The chandelier adds a sense of sophistication and acts as a focal point of interest. The intricate details and warm lighting create a cosy and inviting atmosphere. I appreciate how both the mirror and chandelier not only contribute to the visual appeal of the space but also blend functionality and style,” shared Lily, who shares her home decor journey on Instagram.

Recently, Lily’s home was selected by @ighometourmalaysia – a local home tour group on Instagram hosted by home decor enthusiasts to inspire one another and share ideas on home design and decor – under the theme #ightmhallway for its charming aesthetics. In the hallway is a stunning chandelier that adds a touch of glamour and elegance to the space while the wall art complements the overall aesthetic. In the hallway is a stunning chandelier that adds a touch of glamour and elegance to the space while the wall art complements the overall aesthetic.

“In the hallway, there’s a stunning chandelier that adds a touch of glamour and elegance to the space. The wall art complements the overall aesthetic, contributing to a visually appealing and cohesive look. Believe it or not both the chandelier and wall art are thrifted finds! I managed to snag them at an excellent price.

“As for the door, I gave it a little makeover by repainting it and adding an outer frame to elevate its appearance. The combination of these elements creates a welcoming and stylish ambience in the space, making it a focal point of the home.”

Carefully placed in different corners of the house are various woven baskets and other decor pieces that introduce a natural element and texture to the space.

“They bring a sense of warmth, creating an inviting ambience and contributing to a well-coordinated and cohesive overall design,” she added.

A DIY enthusiast, Lily also installed their own kitchen cabinet with her husband, in addition to creating her own wall art and clock.Lily set up a dedicated playroom for her son, so his toys aren’t usually scattered around the house.Lily set up a dedicated playroom for her son, so his toys aren’t usually scattered around the house.

“I couldn’t find a wall clock design that caught my interest, so I decided to DIY one. The same goes for the wall art in my dining area. I had an extra ornate frame that originally held a mirror, but it got shattered by my cat. Instead of tossing it, I opted to DIY a simple wall art using puttyfilla (a ready-mixed quick drying filler).”

Since her kitchen cabinet design was quite straightforward, Lily chose a patterned backsplash to enhance the kitchen’s appearance.

“We went for a soft colour to maintain a subtle look. Adding gold accessories, such as the gold knobs, brought a touch of elegance to the overall design.”

In the near future, Lily hopes to do a little makeover for her bathrooms, but the couple plans to take their time to find the right style and materials first.

In concluding, she shares a tip from her home decor journey.

“I’m frequently asked how I manage to decorate my home with a toddler running around. Does he not play with the decor items? How do I keep the house tidy? Well, I’ve set up a dedicated playroom for my son, so his toys aren’t usually scattered around the house; they stay in his playroom.

“Home isn’t just for me, it’s also for the kids to grow up so do include them in planning your home!”
