It would seem that fate had a hand in the partnership that would eventually lead to the formation of the restaurants Skillet KL and Beta KL. It so happened that Alex Cheah and his twin, Kelvin, two of the five founders of the restaurants attended a dinner at the unlikeliest of venues, a local private college. The gastronomic experience, describes Alex, was ahead of its time and not something that was seen in the noughties. It was sufficient to pique his interest.

“We were so impressed,” says Alex. “These were college students who were able to serve this molecular cuisine. It was quite amazing because 12/13 years ago, the idea of a molecular dinner was something new.”
