Small screen, big timer

Kim, who is Mido’s first brand ambassador in Asia, drops in at the Multifort TV Big Date Asia-Pacific launch in Bangkok, much to the delight of the over 300 guests at the event.

MIDO’s Asia-Pacific launch of its Multifort TV Big Date in Bangkok, Thailand, is a grand affair.

And, many will agree, the highlight of the event is the appearance of Kim Soo-hyun – one of the most sought-after actors in South Korea – much to the delight of the 300 guests who included Thai celebrities.

Kim is Mido’s first brand ambassador in Asia and has been the face of the Swiss watch brand since 2020.

The actor became a household name in his home country after his role in the Dream High TV series in 2011.

He has since made a mark in the entertainment industry and is best known for his roles in several Korean dramas including The Moon Embracing the Sun (2012), My Love from the Star (2013), The Producers (2015) and It’s Okay to Not Be Okay (2020).

He has also won several awards for his performances.

His determination and ambition to reach greater heights are some of the strong values that he shares with Mido, which the Swiss watch brand says make a good partnership.

Kim is welcomed at the Multifort TV Big Date launch with a loud cheer from the crowd when he is invited on stage.

Standing at 1.8m tall, Kim, who is also a model and singer, looks smart in a black suit and crisp white shirt – sans tie – that he matches with a Mido watch from the newly launched collection.

Although he says his favourite colour is green, he has chosen to wear the Multifort TV Big Date that has the blue dial.

“I think a watch with a steel bracelet goes well with a suit,” says the leading man, believed to be currently the highest paid in the industry, of K-drama.

When asked how he goes about matching his outfit with his watch, Kim says that he often does it in reverse.

“When there is a special occasion and I wear a watch or if I feel like wearing one for the day, it is important to make sure that the outfit and the watch match.

“I often choose the watch first and then pick out the outfit to match,” he says.

The left-handed Kim says that he prefers to wear the wristwatch on his dominant hand.

Elaborating on what he loves about the newest Multifort TV Big Date collection, Kim says it is the shape that especially appeals to him, besides the “big date” feature.

“I do not have a specific preference for the case shape, as I like both round and square shapes.

“This TV-shaped case is neither round nor square but is a little bit of both, so it is perfect.

“It also reminds me of the TV I used to watch as a child.

“The dial has vintage look. It is very classic but modern at the same time,” he adds.

Since becoming Mido ambassador, Kim says his watch collection has expanded exponentially.

When asked for his favourite timepiece, he diplomatically says that every watch has its uniqueness, but when pressed further, admits that he wears the Mido’s Ocean Star most frequently.
