What's going on in the world of beauty?

Not content with finding a multitude of innovative and unexpected purposes for products and reinventing the "rules" of cosmetics application, people are now taking inspiration from coffee culture for their makeup routines.

For proof look no farther than the trend of the moment, dubbed "espresso makeup", which translates into a luminous, tanned complexion and deep brown eye makeup.

In other words, an intense, bolder version of "latte makeup", the inspiration that has been taking social networks by storm since the start of summer.

The hot weather is often synonymous with frozen desserts, cold soups like gazpacho and iced drinks, but it looks like this around will be an exception – at least in the world of beauty.

That's because cosmetics and makeup enthusiasts are all about (mostly) hot caffeinated beverages at the moment and are making them part of their beauty routine if not part of their diet.

On social networks, there are countless inspirations of this kind, from "latte makeup", the summer season's leading trend, to "matcha latte manicures" and "cherry cola lips".

And it's only just begun, with the latest inspo being "espresso makeup", a grungy take on the latte look.

Over five million views

A warm, subtly tanned, creamy and luminous complexion: this is the hallmark of "latte makeup", which exclusively uses bronze and caramel shades for the face and eyes, excluding black eyeliner.

A new version making waves on the Chinese social network, dubbed "espresso makeup", is very similar, with one exception. The complexion is more bronzed and the eye makeup much more intense.

While "latte makeup" appears to be the perfect beauty look for summer days, its relative is a more robust version that's much more suited to evening.

At least, that's what TikTok users seem to think: they swear by these two beauty inspirations, with nearly five million views already for the hashtag #espressomakeup.

The trend has already spawned a host of videos and posts, but it's undoubtedly user Danielle Marcan (@daniellemarcan) who has seen the greatest success with the looks.

Her one-minute video has already been viewed over a million times.

In it, she introduces the beauty look – which she herself describes as "the grunge sister of the latte makeup" – and then offers a tutorial on how to make it your own.

As you can see, the complexion gets more attention, with more bronzing powder and contouring products, the idea being to get the look of tanned skin, but it's above all the eyes that are the focus.

For a perfect "espresso makeup" look, the caramel and bronze shades of the "latte makeup" look are swapped out for pencils and eyeshadows in deep brown, even cocoa, and there's no skimping either on black eyeliner or mascara.

It's a detail that makes all the difference, transforming effortless beauty into an intense grunge style.

All that's left now is to pair it with your summer outfits and wait for the next coffee-machine-influenced beauty inspiration to hit... – AFP Relaxnews
