Beauty enthusiasts seem to be turning to the drinks of the moment to create buzzy new makeup inspirations. And it's clearly working.

The latest such trend, "martini makeup", is causing a stir on social networks, with a look perfectly emulating the appearance of the famous cocktail, while also channeling its chic, feminine and sassy spirit.

From the dry martini to the dirty martini, the espresso martini and the strawberry martini, there are countless variations on the iconic cocktail served in its own conical glass, with or without an olive.

This alcoholic beverage has been popular for decades, and its many versions help keep it up to date, and on the menu.

What we didn't see coming, however, was the cocktail's incursion into the world of makeup. But that's exactly what's happened with "martini makeup", a makeup look directly inspired by more than just the visual appearance of the drink.

Glamorous, chic and dramatic

When it comes to beauty, this season is not about moderation or discretion – quite the contrary. The season is shaping up to be one of bold, daring looks.

This has been seen recently with "unapproachable makeup" and "espresso makeup", and continues today with "martini makeup", a beauty look straight out of a shaker – or almost.

This trend – with a hashtag already boasting nearly two million views on TikTok – is more of an attitude than a mere makeup look.

In fact, the TikTok users who have popularised it, including Claudia Neacsu and Zoe Kim Kenealy, evoke a bold, dramatic, ultra-glamorous look, synonymous with the attitude you might adopt when sipping a martini at a bar or a restaurant table.

Based on this principle, this is essentially an evening look – forget wearing "martini makeup" to work. It should most likely be worn with a cocktail dress or some other glamorous, sophisticated outfit.

As such, this beauty inspiration can only mean smoky eyes, sparkle, a highly finished complexion and contouring. Meanwhile, the two options for lips – a glossy or matte red – are both sure to turn heads.

The aim isn't necessarily to show off or wow (although that's no bad thing), but to make you feel confident and powerful.

In that way, the idea isn't dissimilar to the "unapproachable makeup" trend, designed to intimidate with a mysterious and aloof kind of vibe.

Key colour of olive green

While each user may offer a different version of "martini makeup", not to mention makeup looks inspired by related cocktails, such as the dry martini, the dirty martini or the espresso martini, one detail seems to be the focus of attention: a shimmering olive-green eye.

The idea is to create an olive-green smoky eye, reminiscent of the fruit usually found in the aforementioned beverage, embellished with a sparkling gold shade for a glamorous touch.

It's an easy enough effect to recreate, and it (inevitably) evokes the appearance of the coveted cocktail.

This is probably the only specific feature of this beauty look, which actually encompasses many other makeup styles that all create chic looks laced with audacity.

It seems that we can expect to see a surge of beauty looks inspired by the most popular cocktails on social platforms, from pina colada to the spritz and the iconic mojito.

This is due to users' enthusiasm for transforming a simple makeup look into a veritable fashion phenomenon, not because of anything innovative – not always anyway – but because of its viral potential, which is ultimately the aim of the game on social media. – AFP Relaxnews
