When it comes to the Malaysian fashion scene, the word “colourful” often comes to mind.

This not only describes the vivid shades used by a lot of local designers for their creations, but it also speaks of the varied inspirations and styles.

The country, in itself, bears witness to several big fashion extravaganzas a year – the most recent being Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week.

From streetwear to evening wear, as well as modest options and ready-to-wear staples, you can find them all from the designers here in Malaysia.

Not hedged in by seasonal weather (spring, summer, autumn or winter), the collections have a sense of freedom to them as well.

For example, you have Variante’s collection titled “More than a woman”. It played with varied bright colours, and offers everything from separates to gowns.

Syomiriza Gupta and Fiziwoo similarly turned heads with apparels that draw attention visually.

In contrast, Kit Woo’s designs embrace neutral tones. As more of technical wear, they flirted with the idea of avant-garde aesthetics.

Behati also presented a subdued collection, but the use of metallic fabrics gave the show a little drama and excitement.

If you believe that fashion is an artform, then the offerings from Zuusaha will definitely excite. Her signature “monster” motifs come to live as both prints and and wearable pieces.

Then you also have Fairuz Ramdan who is known for his menswear tailoring. His apparels denote a sense of bravado, but abide to sartorial codes all the same.
