The Dior timepieces for 2023, launched earlier, drew inspiration from couture and themes dear to Monsieur Christian Dior.
The House’s watchmaking combines creative daring, a sense of colour and rich materials with expertise to bring to life the timepieces that are a true ode to femininity.
The Dior Grand Bal collection swirls like a ball gown to the rhythm of the “Dior Inversé” calibre and functional oscillating weight, placed on top of the dial, which drive the timepiece.
A result of strict aesthetic requirements, this watch complication echoes Monsieur Dior’s designs.
“The ballgown makes you dream and must make you a dream woman” are said to be his words.
Like satin, faille and taffeta constructed into opulent and architectural party dresses in the Maison’s atelier, the Dior Grand Bal is adorned with gold threads, net, silk, feathers, gems or scarab beetle elytra.
Joining the Grand Bal timepiece collection is Milly La Nuit, which has been created as a tribute to Monsieur Dior’s beloved gardens and is irresistibly bucolic.
Dior Grand Bal Milly La Nuit is an invitation to a country stroll to the Moulin du Coudret in Milly-la-Forêt, Christian Dior’s dream refuge.
As rose-gold leaves and branches interweave, their poetic shadows are cast over the malachite dial.
Nature comes to life as if enchanted, and it sparkles once plunged into the darkness of night.
On the oscillating weight, exquisite craftsmanship is reflected in delicate engravings, revisiting the abundant texture of branches, from furrows in bark to rustling of leaves.
Bouquets of flowers are paved with diamonds and blue sapphires, while golden spheres glow like so many berries alongside cabochons recalling the wisteria blooming on the façade of the residence.
The brilliance of the diamonds continues to flow to the outside of the case, on the snow-set bezel.
Just like the famous Dior gowns, the Dior watches’ refined materials and their whirlwind of colours are as stunning and memorable.
