Luxury watch collectors and enthusiasts will be thrilled to learn that Hublot’s latest limited-edition series has debuted.
With only 50 pieces available for sale worldwide, the MP-15 Takashi Murakami Tourbillon Sapphire is sure to impress.
The collection is a result of a collaboration between the renowned Swiss watchmaker and the Japanese artist known for his contemporary style.
As the name implies, the watch features Murakami’s distinctive art piece — 12 flower petals crafted from sapphire.
The sapphire lends the watch its transparency, allowing maximum light to pass through the watch case and creating a mesmerising visual effect.
The watch, with a diameter of 42mm, features a central flying tourbillon, a first among Hublot’s collections.
The tourbillon – a French term meaning “whirlwind” – is a mechanism involving a continuous rotation of the balance wheel and spring inside the watch.
At the Singapore launch of the series, Hublot chief executive officer Ricardo Guadalupe says the MP-15 Takashi Murakami Tourbillon Sapphire represents the fusion of art and watchmaking.
“With our concept of The Art of Fusion, the watch symbolises the merging of tradition and innovation, bringing together materials, movements and designs,” he says.
The artistic partner in the collaboration – Murakami – acknowledges that the timepiece, with its see-through qualities, is a departure from his usual works which often involve bold and vibrant hues.
“Up until now, my works have revolved around colours. It’s exciting to start a new chapter that focuses on absolute transparency,” he says.
At the launch, guests were entertained by performances from Thai artistes – rapper Twopee Southside and singer Chonna-sorn Sajakul, better known as Sorn.
Also in attendance was The Hour Glass managing director Michael Tay.
Malaysian celebrities Chan Phei Yong and Muhammad Shameer Shauqeen Shaiful Izam, better known as Meerqeen, were present too.
The MP-15 Takashi Murakami watch is 13.4mm thick and equipped with translucent flange and strap.
This latest creation from Hublot does not sport a conventional dial, as it has been integrated with the case.
The watch boasts a 150-hour power reserve, and comes with a USB-rechargeable stylus for winding the watch.
The MP-15 Takashi Murakami is priced at RM1.45mil. For details, visit www.thehourglass.com/my/catalog/hublot/
