Malaysian singer Ernie Zakri certainly knows how to turn heads. It is not just with her powerful vocals too – on stage, she dresses in the most trendy outfits.

The 31-year-old says that wearing a headscarf is an essential part of her fashion identity. Yet, she is not afraid to be a little adventurous.

Ernie loves and supports local labels. She is always seen wearing designs from one Malaysian designer when performing.

Recently, she was named as ambassador for another: Ayuwan, a Malaysian hijab brand.

“I believe this avenue not only allows me to connect with fans through my singing but also provides an opportunity to connect through my sense of fashion,” she remarks, about the appointment.

The Kuala Lumpur-born artiste first rose to fame after winning national singing competition, Bintang RTM in 2009.

Her long and illustrious career has seen her snagging countless awards. They include Anugerah Juara Lagu, Anugerah Industri Muzik and more.

This is in addition to having starred in several local television dramas and sitcoms.

She also is a vocal teacher. Recognised for her masterful lyrical soprano abilities, Ernie has been dubbed as the “Ariana Grande of Malaysia” by her fans.

Can you describe your style and personal sense of dressing? Is there a specific look that you usually favour?

I typically gravitate towards a simple yet sophisticated aesthetic, and I’ve discovered that brands like Ayuwan complements my aspiration to cultivate a classier appearance as I get older.

How much of a role does fashion play in your life as a singer and an actress? Do you think fashion and entertainment go hand-in-hand?

Fashion and entertainment always go hand-in-hand, especially for celebrities who wield influence through their style. It’s understandable why numerous brands opt for celebrities as the embodiment of their image.

As influencers, we have specific areas and qualities that resonate with people, particularly in areas close to their hearts – such as a hijab line.

What would you say are your three essential fashion accessories that you can’t leave the house with?

My go-to hijab style is the square hijab, complemented by a cardigan that I consider essential for my signature look. This combination perfectly aligns with my style, adding a touch of elegance wherever I go.

To complete the ensemble, I prefer sneakers, as they effortlessly blend comfort and style.

These three elements make my ideal wardrobe, ensuring that I always appear beautiful and presentable.

What are some of your recent favourite designs that you’ve worn for events or performances?

Every outfit I wear on stage is designed by Amazae, encompassing everything from the garment’s construction to its embellishments. I like the couture image that the brand gives off and the designs are very detailed.

Whenever I step onto the stage, they are my top choice, as they truly understand and cater to my unique fashion sensibilities.
