OSCAR-winning actress, Michelle Yeoh graces the screen in a short film, Be Spring, for lululemon’s Lunar New Year campaign.

This cinematic tribute that beautifully captures the harmonious connection between mind and body, was produced by an all-star cast and crew and filmed against the stunning backdrop of the mountains in Jingning and Xiandu in China.

Decked in lululemon’s iconic collections, Yeoh, alongside eight theatrical dancers of Wing Chun from the Shenzhen Opera and Dance Theatre, bring their artistry to life in a visual feast that encapsulates an ode to spring, a season symbolising renewal and fresh beginnings.

Be Spring explores the essence of well-being, urging us to discover perpetual spring within our daily lives.

Perak-born Yeoh, who was named TIME Magazine’s Icon of the Year in 2022, started off her career in Hong Kong in the 1980s and is considered one of Asia’s most successful actresses.

Throughout the years, she has become a household name in Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Hollywood, starring in numerous films that draw from her decades of training in martial arts and dance.

Yeoh made history last year by clinching the Academy Award for her role in Everything Everywhere All At Once, making her the first Oscar-winning actress of Asian descent, and the first Malaysian recipient in the Academy's illustrious 95-year history.

“I’m delighted to be partnering with lululemon. Sports have always been an important element of my life, and I am committed to helping more people, especially younger generations, benefit from sports,” says Yeoh, who adds that Wing Chun holds a special place in her heart.

“Back in 1994, I starred in the movie ‘Wing Chun’, and 30 years later, I’m honoured to have the opportunity to collaborate with these professional dancers to re-interpret Wing Chun through the short film ‘Be Spring’.”

For Yeoh, the concept of Be Spring is one that resonates with her deeply.

“Having our own inner spring all year round is our superpower,” says Yeoh. She adds that taking time to listen and understand oneself – in mind, body and spirit, are the keys to achieving balance and finding inner peace.

An art for the new year

lululemon China brand marketing and community vice president Lynn Cheah echoes Yeoh’s sentiments and the brand's commitment to well-being, asserting that everyone has the right to be well.

“This new year, we want to explore well-being through the lens of eastern culture – our essence, our energy and our spirit,” says Cheah.

Presented through the juxtaposition of Wing Chun – a Southern Chinese martial art, and dance, Cheah explains that Be Spring is a celebration of spring, and an invitation to find your balance and your own eternal spring.

“It is an honour and a pleasure to have both Yeoh and dancers from the theatrical dance ‘Wing Chun’ join us in realising this film.

“Through their movements, they truly demonstrate both the power of martial arts and the grace of dance,” adds Cheah.
