The release of the biopic about Elvis Presley's ex-wife, Priscilla, has brought the legendary style of the American icon back into fashion.

According to a survey that examined consumer interest in her unique and inimitable style, it seems that new generations are (re)discovering and embracing the actress/model's aesthetic, even though it might be far removed from today's standards.

Gone are the 1990s and 2000s, because now it's the 60s and 70s that seem to be edging into the spotlight at the start of 2024.

And with good reason: Priscilla is proving popular, particularly among younger generations, who are drawing inspiration from her style – fashion and beauty alike – to create new trends.

The release of the film about Elvis's wife – based on her own memoir, Elvis And Me, published in 1985 – is of course a driving force behind this renewed interest in Priscilla.

Sofia Coppola's film, in theatres since the fall in the US and in early January in the UK, is reviving the unique style of the woman who spent nearly 15 years with the rock 'n' roll legend.

The Priscilla film, starring Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi, focuses on this period. It looks not only at how Elvis and Priscilla, then aged 14, met, but also at their relationship, marriage and separation.

All this inevitably showcases the young woman's iconic style, particularly in the 60s and 70s, including her sometimes eccentric hairstyles and makeup, and the legendary cat-eye eyeliner flick that became one of her beauty signatures.

It's hardly surprising that these iconic looks are now the talk of social networking sites.

Users are sharing all kinds of tutorials inspired by Priscilla's looks, and are searching out the accessories that contributed to the success of this very special style.

Such is the conclusion of a study published by the Fresha platform, which analysed Pinterest Trends search data on the American star.

The study shows that interest in Prisiclla's outfits and hairstyles has almost tripled in the last three months, compared to baseline levels.

Specifically, searches for the terms "Priscilla Presley hair" rose by 115% over the last quarter.

The same is true for the star's beauty looks, with a 145% jump in searches for the term "Priscilla Presley makeup" since October.

And the icon isn't just setting trends in the beauty sector. Her outfits are also inspiring younger generations, with searches for "Priscilla Presley outfits" soaring by +177% in the last three months.

"Priscilla Presley’s timeless allure and signature makeup have transcended eras, captivating new audiences every generation," said a spokesperson for the Fresha beauty and wellness platform.

"The recent surge in searches reflects a collective fascination with her iconic looks and indicates a modern resurgence of vintage beauty trends, cementing Priscilla as a beauty icon for the ages." – AFP Relaxnews
