IN A highly anticipated moment, Blancpain’s Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune was debuted to Malaysian fans in a special showcase held in Kuala Lumpur.
This collection introduces a 43.6mm case made from patented black ceramic, blending a sporty yet refined style with a vibrant sunray-brushed dial in blue, green and black variations.
Central to its allure is Blancpain’s signature moon phase complication housed within the 6654.P calibre.
It boasts a 72-hour power reserve and secure calendar adjustments without risk of damage.
The timepiece’s craftsmanship extends to its silicon balance spring visible through a sapphire crystal caseback. The silicon balance spring enhances its magnetic resistance.
A defining characteristic of the Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune is the integration of advanced ceramic technology into its bracelet.
It represents a pioneering move since the Bathyscaphe line’s inception in 1956.
This innovation ensures durability, scratch-resistance and hypoallergenic qualities, making it nearly five times harder than stainless steel yet 25% lighter.
With features like the “micro gap” for precise link adjustment, each hand-finished watch appeals to collectors who value both aesthetics and functionality.
Blancpain regional brand manager Carrie Poon emphasised the Swiss watch brand’s dedication to innovation.
“Our pioneering use of high-tech ceramics sets us apart in the industry.
“Each bracelet undergoes meticulous handcrafting, ensuring a unique touch absent in mass-produced machine finishes,” she says during the launch at Suria KLCC, Kuala Lumpur.
Poon tells StarChrono that only six watches from the entire Blancpain line are crafted daily, to maintain exacting standards.
Further demonstrating the model’s versatility, she also highlights straps that are alternatives beyond the ceramic bracelet, ranging from sail-canvas to tropic textured rubber (Nato).
“The strap design features sailcloth on the front and rubber on the back, enhancing water resistance to 300m – a nod to Fifty Fathoms’ legacy of catering to diving enthusiasts,” she elaborates.
The Fifty Fathoms, launched in 1953 by Blancpain’s then CEO Jean-Jacques Fiechter and which drew on his diving experience, has undergone continuous refinements.
It swiftly became indispensable to the French navy’s combat diving corps, surpassing earlier watch tests with its durability, water resistance, secure rotating bezel system and anti-magnetic properties, thereby solidifying its reputation as a dependable tool for divers.
