More than just a colour, black is a strong statement. No matter what kind of look you’re going for, black can help you achieve it.

Whether classic, chic, elegant, sophisticated, minimalist, edgy or gothic, this dark shade has the power to effortlessly elevate your style.

It’s truly a versatile colour, and what we love best is that it can hide a multitude of sins – if you know what we mean.

But rather than delving into the colour’s camouflage witchery (or shall we say trickery?), we’re going to focus on its devilish appeal for this Halloween season.

Always carrying an air of mystery and drama, this timeless tone provides the perfect canvas for going out during the witching hour, or any occasion for that matter, if you want to cast a stylish spell.

As usual, black outfits are presented in many designer collections this season, and interestingly, some feature designs that have a gothic touch, making them perfect for Halloween – albeit in a glamorous and fashionable way.

Ranked high on our haute Halloween list is Balenciaga’s Spring/Summer 2025 black dress that comes with a strong silhouette, particularly the straight, linebacker shoulders, that Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, would surely admire.

Balenciaga did not stop there as the French brand’s creative director, Demna Gvasalia, has designed a complementary version of the goth gown for men in the form of a long, loose coat with upturned, sharp collars reminiscent of Count Dracula’s cape.

From Loewe comes a black, sleeveless dress with white floral print.

Ethereal yet a tad eerie, the dress has a crinoline cage or hoop on the inside to make it look like it is floating. Bewitchingly beautiful!

French brand Sandro’s latest includes a silky, black negligee-inspired dress that would definitely get Wednesday Addam’s approval for its sleek and chic style.

Worn by Taiwanese star, Nineone at the preview during Paris Fashion Week, the Spring/Summer 2025 look is completed with a men’s style blazer and black leather boots.

Kate Spade’s black evening suit accented with sparkling white rhinestones might come across as subtle for a Halloween theme but the smart and sharp get-up is wickedly sophisticated.

Paired with a glittering purse and matching heels, it’s the perfect mix of mysterious charm and timeless glamour.

At Alexander McQueen, the look is darkly mesmerising.

The British brand’s Spring/Summer 2025 black suit comes complete with a rather haunting accessory – an embroidered skull mask in ivory mohair with dripping silver metal and crystal chain “banshee embroidery”. How’s that for turning heads?
